Family Fun—here’s a free activity

We hosted local families on May 22 and again on August 23 for a bit of exploration of the Of Many Minds sculpture exhibit. The goal was to test knowledge of local landmarks and to make new discoveries. The activity engaged families to span the Navy Yard harborwalk and ended with pizza and ice cream at Parris Landing.

This activity was a way for the Navy Yard Garden Association to help expand access and engagement with our local public spaces. There is nothing like the sound of families laughing and children playing in our parks and one our streets. In point of fact, on a recent warm night at Dovetail, four families had booked a very long run of seating on the sidewalk and it was a delight to see the gaggle of children under age ten enjoying socializing at one end of the table while the parents had their own time to catch up.

At the NYGA we are committed to inviting all families and individuals to enjoy the Navy Yard’s rich cultural assets, skyline and harbor views, and open spaces. Our treasured sponsors and businesses like Dovetail provide important support to those experiences.

We are providing the questions (and answers) for families to pursue this fun walk/talk activity independently, while the 20 “Of Many Minds” sculptures are still installed. These beautiful and popular pieces say their goodbyes on December 1, 2023.
